PRECIPITATED CALCIUM CARBONATE SYNTHESIS USING QUICK LIME FROM PADALARANG
Limestone is abundant in natural minerals. At high temperature, Lime can be converted into quicklime that contains a lot of calcium oxide. Efficiency of quicklime can be improved for the industry needs to be synthesized into precipitated of calcium carbonate (PCC). PCC is grounded calcium carbonate...

At high temperature, Lime can be converted into quicklime that contains a lot of calcium oxide. Efficiency of quicklime can be improved for the industry needs to be synthesized into precipitated of calcium carbonate (PCC). PCC is grounded calcium carbonate which is white and has a homogeneous structure of calcite crystals. Quicklime was characterized first by XRF test. In this research, PCC was made by treatment and variation concentration. Treated and untreated quicklime must be heated by furnace in 900 oC. The solution was carbonated by passing through CO2 in room temperature 29oC. N2 was added to accelerate CO2 flow. Solution of lime will react with CO2 to form grounded calcium carbonate or precipitated calcium carbonate (PCC). The carbonation was considered to be complete when the pH dropped 7,0. Precipitated calcium carbonate was separated and heated in 110oC. Properly, Color of PCC brighter than limestone. Brightness test resulted that PCC 3.5 M / 20 mL had the highest brightness of 88.43%. PCC 3,5M/20 mL was used for another test. X-ray diffraction (XRD) characterization resulted PCC is in calcyte, syn form. Increasing surface area can be determined by BET test. BET test resulted PCC 3,5M/20 mL surface area has increased 65,60 % instead of quicklime’s surface area. FTIRS test resulted PCC has calcite spectrum band at 1450,47 cm-1,873,75 cm-1, dan 711,73 cm-1. text |
