INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/35333 The analysis and design of machine foundations is more complex than common foundations. This is because we also considered the dynamic loads generated by machines beside the static loads. Although, in general, the dynamic loads generated by the machine are relatively small to its static, we cannot ignore them in calculation because of the long term operation. Thus, the analysis and design of machine foundations requires good collaboration between structural engineer, geotechnical engineer, and mechanical engineer. The foundations will give a response in the form of vibration response in case dynamic loads applied to them. Vibration response of the foundations is represented by natural frequency of the system structure parameter and vibration amplitude parameter. Both of them are dynamic characteristics of the structure that very important and must be considered in the analysis and design of machine foundations. Natural frequency of the system structure that we design is not allowed to similar or equal to the applicable (dynamic) load to the structure. If that condition happened the resonance will be occurred. Resonance will cause vibration response of the structure amplified so that the displacement from the structure become so much bigger. There are two concepts that are used to design the machine foundation, namely high tune and low tune concepts. High tune is the concept that happened when the natural frequency of the structure higher than the operating frequency of the machine. While the low tune concept is the concept that happened when the natural frequency of the structure lower than the operating frequency of the machine. Main purpose of machine foundation design is to restrict the vibration amplitude response. Vibration amplitude is shown by both maximum displacement and velocity of the structure. Both of these parameters should be limited so that they are not give negative effects to the environment around the foundation. Code that is used as the standard in machine foundation design is ACI 351.3R-04. text
