INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/35379 Energy source is a primary need of human in this time. Any electronic equipment requires a source of energy. One of the widely used energy source today is lithium battery. The use of battery with electrolyte solution has some disadvantages, that are easy to leak, and if there is leakage to lead harmful effects to the environment, because the electrolyte of battery is toxic. To solve this problem, it need preparation of solid electrolyte to replace the solution electrolyte. This research is focused on preparation of solid matrix electrolyte system of polymer using sulfonated polystyrene (SPS), poly(caprolactone) (PCL), and lithium salts, i.e. Li(CH3COO) as an ionic salt. The aim of this research is to prepare solid polymer electrolytes by using SPS with cheaply cost and environmentally friendly for lithium-ion battery applications, and also to obtain the relationship between the addition of lithium acetate and its composition on the structure and characteristics of the polymer electrolyte. This research is used polystyrene obtained by isolation of Styrofoam waste which is widely available in the environment, since styrofoam plastic widely used as packaging of electronic materials and foods. SPS was prepared by sulfonation of polystyrene using acetyl sulfate as a reagent of sulfonation, and poly(caprolactone) was prepared by ring opening polymerization of caprolactone monomer in the presence of distannoxane catalyst. Polymer electrolyte membranes were prepared by casting of polymer solution method, and tetrahydrofuran (THF) used as a solvent. The characterizations of membrane were carried out by using FTIR for functional group analysis, EIS for membrane impedance, Autograph for mechanical strength, XRD for crystallinity, and SEM for surfaces morphology. Based on the analysis of conductivity, the optimal value of conductivity about 4.48 x 10-5 S/cm is obtained in the membrane with Li(CH3COO) composition of 10% (w/w) compared with other polymer electrolyte conductivity. The increase Li(CH3COO) content in membrane, mechanical and conductivity properties of the membrane tend to increase. text
