Many methods and programs can be used for analysis of the flexible structural pavement. One of them is analytical method using KENLAYER program. Load type (in the cases of single axle, dual-tandem, and dual-tridem) and material characteristics (linear elastic, nonlinear elastic, and viscoelastic) used in the calculations of flexible pavement should be considered in its structural design, mainly because the variations of load types and material characteristics would change the responses of pavement structure. Maximum structural responses of flexible pavement design need to be considered. Based on the results obtained from KENLAYER program, the maximum points for each cases are: between two axle load (single axle), between two axle load in Y direction at first axle (dual tandem), and at second wheel axis at X direction and between two wheel in Y direction (dual tridem). Linear elastic material model resulted in bigger response than nonlinear elastic model. Sensitivity analysis was done to determine the effects of the thickness resilient modulus variations to the fatigue cracking (horizontal tensile strain at the bottom of asphalt layer) and permanent deformation (vertical compressive strain on the top of subgrade) for the consideration of the flexible pavement structures strength to carry the traffic loading. In the thin layer foundation, the damage criteria mostly resulted from permanent deformation. Different result is observed in thick layer foundation, whereas fatigue cracking effect are more dominant. text
