Description
Summary:KPH Bandung Utara is an administrative management unit under the Perhutani Corporation with the task of managing forests which are classified into the status of Production Forest (hutan produksi/HP) and Protection Forest (hutan lindung/HL). Since 2009, there has been a status change for most forest areas in KPH Bandung Utara, i.e., from HP status to HL status, while the main source of income has been from the sale of logs from HP. To overcome the loss experienced due to decreasing income from the sale of timber logs, identification of other potentials that can be utilized from the forest is needed. Among the forest potentials that are currently not optimally utilized are ecosystem services in the form of water storage, carbon storage, biodiversity conservation, and tourism. This study aims to determine potential areas of ecosystem services and estimate their economic value, assign the sustainability index, formulate management strategies, and determine the total value of revenue from the management of potential areas of ecosystem services in KPH North Bandung. In this study, economic valuation is carried out through the determination of value/price through a social approach by using the prices stated in government regulations and the benefit values approach by using the contingent valuation method (CVM) and travel cost method (TCM), while sustainability analysis is conducted using Rap-forest with multidimensional scaling (MDS) method. Based on the results of the study, the total economic value of four ecosystem services in 2018 amounts to Rp 1,142,160,104,611, while the sustainability index on the ecological, economic, social and institutional dimensions are 52.2%, 67.8%, 65.5% and 84.0% respectively, with the overall sustainability index being 67,4% (quite sustainable). The recommended ecosystem services management strategy based on SWOT analysis is through an aggressive strategy approach by increasing the productivity of ecosystem services, and increasing promotion and competitiveness of ecosystem services. From the results of the formulation of the strategy, the total revenue from the management and development of ecosystem services in KPH Bandung Utara in 2018 is estimated at Rp 39,467,206,283.
