Summary: | Urban population growth affects to high demand for residential land, and other uses. Due to limited land, urban area spreads to periphery which triggers the development of periurban. The expansion resulted in agricultural loss in suburbs. The transformation of peri-urban encourages the conversion of agricultural to non-agricultural. Many policies to prevent and reduce land use change has not been optimal, alternative strategies are needed that rely on community participation, involving the role of local communities.
This paper aims to see the impact of land use change on economic, social and cultural, as well as the responses and actions of local communities and the participation of periurban society. How they maneuver against problems that occur. The community studied PASSER is located in Ciburial area, North Bandung. The research uses a qualitative approach at how local communities play role in reducing land conversion rate. Learning process by bringing ideas to public and involving community participation using local assets, encourages sharing and learning. Fulfilling the knowledge, capital and raw material resources that are not met from local assets makes the community expand local-global networks. Local parties remain an important part of the empowerment process carried out. The large number of local entities involved in the community development process can slow the pace of land conversion. |
