INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/35953 Indonesia as the fourth largest population in the world has experienced a drastic decline in the field of sports achievement. One reason is the development of athlete’s quality that is less optimal. The athlete’s potential can be identified by measuring his anaerobic ability, that is by performing a sprint test. However, Indonesia has problems in measuring the speed component, that is the manual method is still used by using a stopwatch, causing high human error and increasing the need for human resources. Thus far, the current commercial instrument is a digital system for retrieving data just at a certain distance and sold at high prices. This research has conducted design and implementation of hardware of instrument and prototype for measuring speed, acceleration, and speed endurance of athlete, that is track timer system with timing gates. This instrument can collect the athlete’s speed component data at the desired distance in direct 60m sprint test with measurement every 10m. There are two main sub-systems, namely the start sensor sub-system and the gate sensor sub-system. The sub-system start sensor is used to detect and send trigger signals when measurement has been started, while the sub-system gate sensor is used to calculate time when the athlete passes the distance where the sub-system gate sensor is placed. The hardware of track timer system is designed using components including: microcontroller nodeMCU v1.0, Autonics BA2M-DDT photoelectric sensor, RF433MHz communication module, LGHE4 18650 li-ion battery, and the other components. The timing algorithm uses the Ticker.h library, while the algorithms for communication between sub-systems uses the RCSwitch.h library. The test results are that the system is able to measure athlete's running speed up to distance of 60m with measurements every 10m. The detection of athletes by the system can be carried out in the range of 0.1 ~ 2m at the vertical direction of the system. The track timer system can be used for 7.5 hours in operational conditions. By creating athlete’s physical ability instrument at affordable prices, it is hoped that the trainer can immediately identify the talents of an athlete throughout Indonesia and can develop an appropriate training program. text
