INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/35966 The city of Bandung is one of the favorite tourist destinations, it can be seen from the number of tourist arrivals that continues to increase every year, as well as being the city in West Java with the highest level of tourist visits to accommodation in 2017. This condition is positive when viewed from the development of tourism context, but on the other hand, it is also feared that it can cause negative impacts such as the fact that the environmental quality index of West Java Province in 2017 is the third worst out of 34 provinces in Indonesia, one of which caused by the tourism industry and also waste from the accomodations. Likewise, the flood problems that often occur every year is caused by the developments of the tourism industry in Bandung City. The dynamic and rapid development of urban tourism, as well as research showing urban areas will host two-thirds of the world's population (UNWTO, 2018), it is necessary to monitor tourism performance and sustainability-related innovations that aim to overcome the possibility of changes such as environmental or social change that may happens in the future. Therefore, instruments and indicators are used to measure city tourism performance that refer to UNWTO/WTCF City Tourism Performance Research created by the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) and the World Tourism Cities Federation (WTCF). After that, more specific concept put forward by Scott and Cooper (2010) which allows to distinguish between the sustainability of the front room and the back room in considering the characteristics of sustainable urban tourism (SUT) and product innovation. This research will use descriptive methods with quantitative and qualitative approaches or referred to as combination research methods. While the combination method model used is the Concurrent Triangulation Strategy model. The quantitative approach is used to collect data from the tourists related to the front room aspect using questionnaires technique, while the qualitative approach is used in obtaining information and data through interviewing techniques to the Dinas Kebudayaan dan Pariwisata, Dinas Lingkungan Hidup dan Kebersihan, and Dinas Perhubungan in Bandung City, as well as observation and documentation to complete the data needs regarding the back room aspects in sustainable urban tourism in Bandung City. In the formulation of strategies, SWOT matrix analysis methods are used which can clearly describe how (external) opportunities and threats faced, and then adjusted to existing strengths and weaknesses (internal). The results of this study are referred to the key performance areas of destination management, socio-cultural perspectives and environmental perspectives. In each of the key performance area and all findings from the front room and back room side are described in detail, and sustainable urban tourism development strategy is formulated from the merger between the findings of the front room and back room in the city of Bandung. This research is expected to provide a suggestion for tourism planners, governments, private parties, and tourism organizations in an effort to apply the concept of sustainable urban tourism by the front room and back room model, and the strategies formulated in this study are expected to contribute in supporting the development of Bandung City as sustainable urban destinations. text
