Description
Summary:Asidogenesis stage on anaerobic digestion process produces volatile acids, ethanol, CO2, and H2. Formation of ethanol on asidogenesis stage can be influenced by the presence of metals such as Zinc, Cobalt, and Molybdenum. The presence of these metals is believed to function as a cofactor of the enzyme in the anaerobic process. This experiment will determine the most influential metal on the formation of ethanol during acidogenic anaerobic treatment of cocoa pulp wastewater. This experiment uses an artificial wastewater with soluble COD value of 15,000 mg/L. This experiment uses a batch system to operate the reactor with a reaction time of 72 hours and it also use duplicate reactors. The highest removal COD was obtained on the addition of Cobalt with an efficiency of 79.96%. While the highest formation in biomass was obtained on addition of Molybdenum with the increasing of volatile suspended solids concentration equals to 2,714.663 mg/L after 72 hours. Gas composition at the end of the operation is dominated by CO2 and N2. Ethanol concentration obtained without the addition of metal is 7,483.07 mg/L. The addition of Zinc, Cobalt, and Molybdenum into the reactor produces ethanol concentration after 72 hours respectively equals to 13,095.4 mg/L, 13,095.4 mg/L, and 7,483.07 mg / L. Based on the analysis using 2n factorial statistical methods, the results showed that the addition of a combination metals Zinc – Cobalt and Zinc – Cobalt – Molybdenum affect the formation of ethanol in the reactor at asidogenesis stage in anaerobic processing of cocoa pulp wastewater.
