Description
Summary:Independence in the health sector is an important thing manifested by every nation because health is a fundamental thing in national life. At present, modern health practices applied in Indonesia result in dependence on various health products from other countries. As a result, Indonesia have not been able to realize independence in the health sector. Since 2014, the government has implemented a national health coverage policy run by the BPJS Kesehatan to address health costs. On the other hand, the development in the field of nanotechnology is increasingly rapid, including nanomedicine. In addition to efficacious treatment, nanomedicine can also be used for disease prevention and improving health status. With a number of advantages, the development of nanomedicine is believed to be an opportunity for the realization of independence in the health sector for every nation. This study was conducted to determine the dynamics of the practice of nanomedicine in Indonesia and policy recommendations that need to be done so that nanomedicine can be applied in the health sector. The research method used is a qualitative method case study with the Actor-Network Theory approach. The results of this research indicate that the practice of nanomedicine in Indonesia has not moved towards implementation in the health sector due to the absence of involvement of health practitioners from the research, production and development stages. On the other side, the practice of health coverage in Indonesia is more focused on treatment efforts than health efforts. As a tropical country, nanomedicine in Indonesia has the opportunity to progress through the development of natural medicines. So it is necessary to have a Roadmap for the Application of Natural Nanomedicine in Healthcare in Indonesia, which is jointly prepared by the government, nano researchers, pharmaceutical industry and health practitioners
