Summary: | In this modern era, the utilization of plastic material is very important and common. As the utilization is increasing, plastic waste becomes a problem. Recycling is one of the answer to the above. As an interim process, plastic bottle shredding machine is the solution for compact packaging of the plastic bottle waste to be recycled. Previous work has been initiated and a prototype has been built. However, the previous version of the prototype is plagued by problems in reliability and shredded size, slip in the driving shaft, and significant deflection of the shaft. In this final project, design alteration is performed to alleviate the above problems.
The focus of this final project is on design modification, manufacturing of parts, assembling of the new version, and prototype testing. Comparation of the performance of the machine before and after the modification will be executed.
To see the performance of the prototype, we will test the new machine to shred mineral water bottles (PET) and engine lubricant bottles (HDPE). Test results show that the modified machine performs better than the previous. There is no slip between the blade and shaft, and also no significant bending of the shaft occurs during the test. |
