Furthermore, stress level may decrease alfa brainwave level. It is known that acupuncture has been widely used as one of non-pharmacological therapy for stress treatment. Therefore the objective of this experiment is to study the role of GI acupuncture administration in elevating alfa brainwave level measured by EEG on frontal and parietal area of the brain. The experiment was done to 7 ITB male students as the subjects. The experiment was divided into 2 steps, firstly, subjects filled in the questionnaire in order to observe their stress level one day prior to final exam indicated by psychosomatic symptoms, and secondly, subjects were treated with GI acupuncture for 60 minutes while their alfa brainwave levels were recorded using EEG. The result showed that, according to the questionnaire, subjects suffered low, moderate, and high stress level. However, after GI acupuncture administration, the alfa brainwave level showed a tendency to increase in students with high stress level. To conclude, during 60 minutes of GI acupuncture, alfa brainwave level tend to increase, mostly around 8-11 Hz which indicates relaxed state. text |
