ACUTE TOXICITY TEST WITH Daphnia magna OF WWTP TEXTILE INDUSTRIAL AREA AT DAYEUHKOLOT
There are about 800 textile industries that located in Bandung discharge their waste water directly into the Citarum River. This made the condition of the Citarum River was in heavily polluted status. In Dayeuhkolot there is Waste Water Treatment Plant (WWTP) area that treated waste water from 23 te...

This made the condition of the Citarum River was in heavily polluted status. In Dayeuhkolot there is Waste Water Treatment Plant (WWTP) area that treated waste water from 23 textile industri around it and discharge its efluen into the Citarum River. Physical and chemical monitoring isn’t fully represented the impact of waste water on the environment, especially for living things. Therefore it’s necessary to performed biological monitoring that related to living things. One of method of biological monitaring that we can use is acute toxicity test (Whole Efluen Toxicity) to evaluate the performance of the WWTP to monitor the effluent that exceed are toxic or not. This test consists of two stages: the preliminary test (range finding test) and the definitif test, obtaine LC50 (Lethal Concentration 50%) values. The test animals that be used in this research is Daphnia magna. To obtaine performance of the WWTP, characterization test were conducted. From the characterization test is obtained some parameters are above the standards according to KepMenLH No.51 in 1995. The efficientcy from COD removal is 2,3%, and for the other parameter there are not removal. According that the performance from this WWTP is still so poor. This acute toxicity test of WWTP’s effluent were conducted with static method non renewal in 6 days. Average value of LC50 that is obtained is 36.59% and the TUa values from these six samples were >1 so relatively toxic and is not yet safe discharged into the environment. text |
