Description
Summary:This research aims to synthesis photocatalyst TiO2 in pyridinium derived ionic liquid for methyl orange degradation. Ionic liquid, 1-butyl-pyridinium chloride was synthesized from pyridine and 1-chlorobutane characterized by TLC and 1HNMR to confirm the structure of ionic liquid. Afterthat, photocatalyst TiO2was synthesized in ionic liquid solution by hydrothermal method using titanium (IV) etoxide (TEOT) as precursor. Synthesized photocatalyst was characterized by DR- UV to study the band-gap, XRD to define the crystallinity, SEM to show the morphology, and BET to calculate the surface area and pore distribution. Exploration of photocatalytic activities for methyl orange degradation were carried out inside a photoreactor with artificial UV radiation. Optimation of photocatalytic activity were carried out by following parameters: pH effects, radiation times, mass of TiO2, doses, lamp’s range, radiation intensity of lamp, and concentration of methyl orange. The results of this research suggested optimum condition for TiO2 as catalyst for photodegradation of organic pollutant and alternative green chemistry solution for chemical industry in treating waste water. In addition, a module for laboratory experiment on degradation of methyl orange by TiO2 photocatalyst was developed for Environtmental Chemistry subject for senior high school students.
