Summary: | Pollination is the transfer of pollen from the anther to the stigma resulting in
fertilization events. Elaedobius kamerunicus Faust (Coleoptera: Curculionidae)
has been identified as the most effective pollinator beetles on plant oil palm. This
study aims to calculate the amount of pollen on the female flowers using a pollen
trap, calculate the amount of pollen that sticks to the body of male and female
beetles both male flowers and female flowers on and the effect on the percentage
of fruit set. Installation was done when the trap perfectly receptive flowers. The
percentage of fruit set of counting the whole fruit of the oil palm fruit bunch. Data
was analyzed using SPSS'16 program. The results showed that the amount of
pollen in the trap between stigma is higher than the air trap and pistils, although
not statistically significantly different. The amount of pollen per cluster area is
48.83 / cm2 (June) and 56.4 / cm2 (August). The results also show the amount of
pollen in the beetle's body on the male flower in June (3881 ± 2204) more than in
the female flowers (475 ± 379) and not statistically significant. The same trend
was also obtained in August. The results of calculations pollen delivery on June
and August ranged from 11.9% to 12.9%. From these results it can be concluded
that the amount of pollen around the female flowers was positively correlated with
the percentage of fruit set formation. |
