The existence of oil platforms that no longer operate has the potential to endanger shipping safety and even some reports state that there have been several ship accidents due to the existence of the oil platforms. According to international and national law, offshore oil platforms that reach the end of the operating period must be decommissioned to prevent pollution of the marine environment and ensure shipping safety. The decommissioning of the oil platform can be one of the main problems facing Indonesia's upstream oil and gas industry in the future given the large use of state funds. This final project aims to provide an understanding of the importance of decommissioning offshore oil platforms that no longer operate while providing idea about reutilize abandoned oil platforms to benefit of government and people surrounding the area. To achieve this goal, this final project examines the legal framework and makes a comparison of the existing alternative dismantling options. This final project is a quantitative descriptive study that systematically examines some information obtained through public information from various sources, both government documents, NGOs, site surveys and related scientific research. The results of this final project show that the "partial remove" (rig to reef) method is the best alternative dismantling option that meets economic and environmental considerations. This final project recommends flexible and clear regulations that accommodate these alternative options. |
