Description
Summary:Bandung Library is a fictional project governed by local public service ‘Dinas Perpustakaan dan Kearsipan’. The project is located in the junction of Dipatiukur and Haur Pancuh street, which has 7734m2 surface area. This building consists of three floors, one basement, and a rooftop. It also has 8027 m2 surface area. This project mainly engages in the social sector and welcomes people from all backgrounds. The main purpose of the project is to become one of the city land mark, which can accommodate and also nurture the culture of reading. The site preference is considered suitable for the project because it is located in the suburban area which is near three universities, commercial buildings as well as near the prominent building of the city ‘monumen perjuangan’. Even though the location is considered strategic, merely library is not enough to build the interests of people to read, especially in this era of modern digital. Therefore, there is a need for an innovation that suits local preferences. The idea of library as a lifestyle center emerges as the outcome of the project because Bandung has a strong sense of community. This concept has the goals to facilitate public activities besides nurture reading culture of its people, and hopefully it can become a prominent lifestyle in Bandung.
