One of the examples of implementation is utilization of rainwater as an alternative water source to be able to conserve water and to reduce the water bill. This research was intended to determine master plan of rainwater harvesting in ITB Ganesha to be able to reduce clean water usage and bill. Two main systems of this rainwater harvesting are Rooftop Rainwater Harvesting which located at the building which has more than three-stories and area larger than 1,000 m2 and Ground Rainwater Harvesting which catch rainwater that flows to the downstream of drainage. Both systems are planned to supply clean water for showering, washing and toilet flushing. Therefore, rainwater quality characterization was conducted on samples from eight sampling points which are located around campus. Laboratory analysis results then compared with clean water threshold value on Health Ministry Regulation No. 416/1990. As for the rainwater quantity, it was determined by calculating potential rainwater catchment. Based on laboratory analysis, exceeded parameters are organic matters and total coliform. The treatment to eliminate those parameters is rapid sand filtration. Technically, rapid sand filtration is easy to operate and maintain and also more efficient in land use. Based on the calculation, rainwater catchment for both systems is 11,479.66 m3/month. Therefore, usage reduction is approximately 31.52% of ITB Ganesha clean water demand. Rainwater harvesting has the potential to reduce approximately Rp59,228,839.78 per year based on comparison of annual value from cost estimation. text |
