| Summary: | Library is facility that provide information. Libraries are important for improving the quality
of education in a country. However, Library in Indonesia has become a facility that is rarely visited.
This is because the emergence of digital?based information and trend of young people who tend to
spend time in cafes and shopping centers. Therefore library needs to evolve and may have different
design approach than the old ones. Library not only provides information in books but also information
in the form of digital. And the stigma, that library is boring place needs to be change, by making libraries
a recreational function for the community and young people.
This project is a local public library. The library is located on Jl. Menteri Supeno, Umbulharjo,
Yogyakarta with an area of ± 11,755 m2. The library will be designed as a space for interaction, the
lungs of the city and as a space for recreation, so the concept of the library is the Library as Urban
Oasis. The application of oasis is carried out by making recreational functions in the form of parks,
interaction spaces, amphitheater, and adding cafe functions to buildings. The library is expected to
be an escape function for the busy city atmosphere. This library holds the functions of print and nonprint
collections. Looking at the tropical climate around Yogyakarta, the library is designed with a flat
mass and a sloping roof, so that buildings are energy efficient. This library is designed to change
people's views about a boring library. |
