Effect of Intercropping Between White Corn (Zea mays L.) Var. Anoman and Peanut (Arachis hypogaea) Var. Gajah

The cultivation technique that is often done is monoculture. However monoculture cultivation has several disadvantages. Along with the decline in the area of productive area and increased production costs. The approach that can be taken to overcome this problem is the utilization of intercropping methods. This study aims to determine the effect of maize intercropping with peanuts on the productivity characteristics of white corn and peanuts, and determine the land equivalent ratio (LER) in intercropping systems. This study used a randomized block design (RBD) with 5 treatments and 5 replications. The treatments given were monoculture corn (control), corn intercropping and one peanut (J + KT), corn and two peanuts (J + 2KT), intercropping of corn plants planted 20 days after peanuts (J + KT, 20 days), and Corn is planted 20 days after peanuts with 2 peanuts (J + 2KT, 20 days). The research was conducted at the Jatinangor ITB campus. The results showed the effect of intercropping of corn with peanuts in the highest white corn productivity of 3.33 tons / ha in J + 2KT treatment. While the highest peanut productivity was 0.482 tons / ha in treatment J + KT. Intercropping has an effect on corn and peanuts on other productivity characteristics such as the height of maize, dry green maize, maize weight, corn pipil weight, corn cob height, and weight of peanut seeds. Meanwhile, the highest land equivalent ratio (LER) was found at J + KT, which was 3,013. Intercropping of corn and peanuts can increase crop profits compared to planting polyculture. This research is useful to provide early information on the development of a corn production system with limited land. text
