Summary: | The very first prototype (or Prototype 0) of LED illumination powered by thermoelectric has been equipped on exhaust gas pipe at Thermal Energy Laboratory of FTMD ITB boiler. Prototype 0 is successfully work, but the thermoelectric module support is too heavy. The support modification done in order to make a lighter and flexible module support so it is work on any pipe with various size and temperature.
Design process begins with evaluation of previous module support, then determined some alternative design. The alternative support design selection is based on its mass, temperature, manufacturing process, function, and cost. Two best design is selected. The prototypes is made from those design and then being test.
Some experiments is conducted to know the support protoypes surface temperature, output voltage of the thermoelectric support, and light intensity of the LED illumination system.
Aluminium support prototypes surface temperature reached 125.10C. The thermoelectric output voltage reached 2.75 volt. The LED turns on 10 minutes faster than the 0 prototypes and its light intensity is about 268 lux. Stainless steel-aluminium prototype surface temperature reached 110.60C. Its thermoelectic’s output voltage reached 2.32 volt but the LED can’t catch a light. There is a gap, between stainless steel part and aluminium part, that intrude heat to transferring through the support prototype. Thermoelectric received low heat energy so it’s produce low electricity.
Aluminium prototypes makes a better performance of the LED lighting systems than 0 prototypes, while stainless steel-aluminium don’t. |
