Summary: | The construction of Patimban Port will increase the volume of goods and services transactions in West Java, which is currently one of the regions with high economic growth. Patimban region is a strategic area with a position close to the industrial area have a large economic potential by providing access points for goods through the Java Sea. The Patimban Port planned area is located on the alluvial soil layer which has not been consolidated and is at risk of land subsidence.
Land subsidence Phenomenon is a long-term process. One of methods that can be used to monitor land subsidence is the episodic (periodic) GPS survey. By knowing the amount of land subsidence as shown by the height changes from one observation point to the next observation, then characteristics of land subsidence can be studied further. The results of GPS data processing shows that in the period 2015 to 2018 some areas around Patimban region have experienced land subsidence about 1 to 5 cm/year varies both spatially and temporally that is indicated to be slower than the results of the InSAR study in 2007 – 2009.
The rate of land subsidence in the Patimban Port plan area has same linear trend as the results of the Insar study but has experienced gradient changes caused by drilling activities of hydrocarbon compounds and groundwater extraction. Land subsidence can cause a rise in relative sea level in the Patimban Port area hence the rate of land subsidence should be taken into account in the design of the port.
