Effects of Growth Media Composition and Pond Water Nutrient on Nutrient Content of Red Spinach (Amaranthus tricolor) in Organic Verticulture
The rate of spinach consumption is rising up to 0,05 kg per capita each year (1,6%) and accompanied by the decreasing of production up to 2,94%. One of the cause is the decreasing of the land quality by excessive usage of synthetic fertilizers and synthetic pestisides, so developments and improvements on red spinach cultivation are needed. Urban farming practice through verticulture can increase the productivity of narrow lands; therefore it can be chosen as an alternative for cultivation methods. The study was designed to determine the effects of growth media composition and pond water nutrient used in red spinach verticulture toward nutrients content (carbohydrate, lipid, and protein) of red spinach. The study was done by planting vertically using paralon pipes filled with growth media consist of Lembang soil, compost, and goat manure with different ratios 1:1:1 (M0), 1:2:1 (M1), and 1:1:2 (M2) and watered by filtrated irrigation water (A0) and pond water every morning and evening through a month. Plant weight and its nutrient content (carbohydrate, lipid, and protein) were observed. The result shows that the difference between the ratios of growth media doesn’t give any significance difference towards all of the parameters, while usage of pond water shown to make significance difference in carbohydrate content. Nutrient content analysis shown that the highest carbohydrate content was produced by A0M1, which was 9,46%, highest lipid content was produced by A0M1, which was 0,57%, highest protein content was produced by A1M1, which was 14,97%, and highest estimated productivity was A1M1, which was 7,5 Tons/ha. text |
