Description
Summary:The world is predicted going to an energy crisis in 2050 because the main energy source from fossil fuels is running low. Buildings are the largest energy user sector, reaching 47.6% of total energy use. According to data from the ASEAN Center for Energy (ACE) in 2013 it was noted that Indonesia was the country with the highest level of waste of electricity in Southeast Asia. There are 9 cities that use the highest electricity in Indonesia, namely Jakarta, Medan, Makassar, Bali, Batam, Semarang, Surabaya, Banjarmasin, and Palembang. Therefore, alternative energy use is very important now to reduce dependence on fossil fuels. Surabaya is the second largest city in Indonesia with 3 million of population. Economic growth in Surabaya is quite high, almost approaching Jakarta, besides that, Surabaya is also a center of business, trade and industry, especially for Eastern Indonesia. One of the buildings needed is a rental office building with highly performance because office buildings are one of the buildings with highest energy consumption. Surabaya has high solar radiation with an average sun exposure time of 8 hours a day, which has the potential to utilize sunlight as an alternative energy. One of them is building integrated photovoltaic (BIPV). BIPV is the uses of panel suryas that are integrated in building envelopes such as roofs, skylights, or façades to produce electricity. The BIPV system can save electricity usage, reduce fossil energy use, and can add to the aesthetics of a building. The design of the rental office in Surabaya will be simulated using Open Studio applications to get the best design results and find out how much energy is used by the building and how much energy can be produced by itself, with the main goal of reducing fossil fuel dependence without putting aside the economic aspects. The design and simulation process will be mutually arbitrary until the ideal building design is obtained.
