Description
Summary:Livestock waste from commercial farms and poultry farms was the source of organic and inorganic pollutants in surface water and ground water. The Ranch in Dago Atas raising the cattle and sheep which is the livestock waste streamed directly to Cikapundung River. If the manure was processed into biogas, the methane gas generated would be useful for alternative energy sources. By exploiting the potential of manure, then it was include to the concept of cleaner production as retrieve to energy or waste to energy strategies. This research tested the potential utilization of manure from Dago Atas Ranch. Based on the characteristics test of those manure on the parameters of moisture content, pH, and the C / N value, then the manure has the potential to produce biogas. The operational process of biogas production occurs in anaerobic biodigester, without heating system, and operated directly in the Ranch. The substrate was charged and stirred manually into the batch system biodigester. Substrate on Biodigester A was a mixture of water and cattle manure at ratio of 1:1. Biodigester B contained a mixture of sheep manure, cattle manure, and water at ratio of 1:3:4. Biodigester C contained a mixture of sheep manure and water at ratio of 1:1.After 60 days operation of biodigester, there was fluctuating temperature in range of 19-30°C and the pH changed in certain periods. The highest methane content of the biogas production during 6 weeks was derived from substrate of cattle manure with the percentage of 64.83% (6thweek). Mixture substrate of sheep manure and cattle manure produces methane gas as much as 58.55% (7thweek), while the sheep manure substrate produces methane gas as much as 50.1% (5thweek).
