Description
Summary:Waste is one of the environmental problems that continuously happen in Indonesia. One of the methods to handle the waste generation is transfer station. Transfer station is used as a short-term storage of wastes before being transferred to landfill. One of transfer stations in Bandung City is Cibeunying transfer station. Facilities and infrastructures of this transfer station were evaluated by technical requirements from the Ministry of Public Works Regulation No. 03 Year 2013. The supporting data was waste sources data from served areas, dimension of the building, the function and facilities of the building, waste composition, peak hour of vehicle, and waste generation data of eight days in a row. In 2014, the total consumer is 15,328 people with 0.52 kg/person/day or 10.67 tonnes/day for its average waste generation. While the nonhousehold has 50 units in served and generates 9.37 tonnes/day. This transfer station is dominated by 58.21% organic waste, 15.60% paper & cardboard, and 7.40% plastic packaging for its waste composition. Based on the evaluation, Cibeunying transfer station need to be enhanced in several sectors. The development was done by determining design concept and preliminary design to fulfil the capacity in the next ten years. The concept was done by cutting the service area, waste generation prediction, choosing the best scenario and applying new utilities such as expanding the area, organizing the collection and transportation system, installing the leachate storage, applying garden to give the aesthetics impression, adding new areas such as unloading area, sorting, weighing and recording, and storage. Preliminary design, as the second step of design, consists of criteria and specification of design for each recommended alternatives including the layout and 3d perspective drawing of new transfer station.
