Description
Summary:Organic waste produced by household, market and industrial waste are one of many problems faced by Indonesia. Concerning the above matters, one thing that can be performed to reduce such organic waste is by applying bioconversion concept using black soldier fly larvae (Hermetia illucens) which has potential to convert 34-54% organic waste into protein and fat in its body biomass as well as it is also having economic value as a feed such fish feed.In the application, there are several challenges concerned to the use of insects as bioconversion agents namely (1) the effects of feeding in the form of a mixture of organic waste and (2) the effects of feeding time. Both of these challenges are the objectives of this study. In this study, to answer the first question, flying black soldier larvae were fed mixed tofu-dreg and fish waste with a ratio of different mixtures of tofu waste (AT) and fish waste (LI) 40%: 60%, 50%: 50%, and 60%: 40%.The feed is given with a different pattern of feeding time, to answer the second question, which is every day, every three days, once every five days, ten days and twenty days. The variables observed were weight gain and survival rate. The results showed a significant difference between the composition of feed and variations in feeding time to the growth of black soldier fly larvae. The best combination to produce the largest larval biomass is the composition of feed 40% LI: 60% AT with feeding time once every 5 days.
