INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/37058 The need of asphalt in Indonesia as one of the pavement mixture materials is increasing. The richness of Indonesian natural resources in Buton Island in the form of Buton Asphalt (Asbuton) can be an alternatif for asphalt. A strong pavement structure in supporting high traffic loads is so essential, therefore, a good pavement mix design is needed. One of the ways is using a mixture of hot asphalt Stone Matrix Asphalt (SMA) which has a good service life and Fatigue crack resistance due to high asphalt content. As the high percentage of coarse aggregates used in this mixture, it also requires asphalt binder with hard characteristics. As the result, asphalt modified with pure Asbuton Lawele is used since it can improve structural and functional performance of the mixture. The asphalt used in this research was Pen 60/70 asphalt, Starbit E-55 modified polymer asphalt and modified asphalt Asbuton (PMA 2%). While the mixture used is a SMA fine graded mixes with a maximum nominal of 12.5 mm aggregate and a mixture using cellulose fiber to prevent excessive asphalt flow during mixing. SMA mixtures are planned in accordance with the AASHTO M 325-08 which is equipped with the General Specifications Bina Marga 2010 Revision 3 and will be tested using Marshall testing, Draindown, Indirect Tensile Strength Ratio (ITSR), Cantabro loss, Resilient Modulus and Fatigue resistance. with a Four Point Loading strain control method. The content of Asbuton as additive Pen 60/70 asphalt (PMA 2%) makes the bitumen harder, but it has a higher elasticity than Pen 60/70 asphalt. In general, a SMA mixture with PMA 2% asphalt as the results of laboratory testing provides a better mixture performance compared to SMA mixture with Pen 60/70 asphalt. text
