Description
Summary:The phenomenon of gentrification is a process of changing the structure of the environment which involves the replacement of low socioeconomic classes with higher socioeconomic classes that generally occur in urban areas, but today with many factors such as the rate of investment, urbanization in the periphery, easy access to transportation, megaproject development and other driving factors, it is possible that gentrification can also occur in the rural area. The development of the new BIJB Airport is actually aimed at increasing economic growth through infrastructure development, but on the other hand also has an externality impact on the area around Airport development. This study will try to examine the extent to which the development of megaprojects can encourage events of gentrification around development areas which are geographically classified as rural areas. The research approach uses a mixed approach with the collection and analysis of quantitative data in the first stage followed by the collection and analysis of qualitative data in the second stage which is built on the initial quantitative results. The results showed that the construction of the International West Java Airport megaproject or classified as a new build gentrification could encourage the occurrence of gentrification but was limited to physical and economic changes in the study area, while changes in the social structure of the community had not yet occurred.
