Summary: | Waste management in Bandung conducted by PD Kebersihan which divides the service area into four operational areas, one of which is the South Bandung area. This region consists of 6 districts and this area is still developing. Total waste generation in South Bandung area is 163.28 tons/day with the generation unit of 0.34 kg/person/day and a density of 155.82 kg/m3. The biggest waste composition is food scraps and leaves as much as 41% and 18% which have the potential to be reduced by composting. Waste management system in South Bandung area is still implementing the system 'collect-haul-dump'. Containing service levels from the source to the transfer station reaches 43.35%, which shows that the transfer stations don’t have sufficient capacity to accommodate all the waste. The transport services from transfer depot to landfill that reach 74.76% indicates that there are still piles of garbage in the transfer station and hasn’t been managed. The problem that often occurs such as an imbalance of waste input with the waste management capacity also lack of facilities and infrastructure showed that South Bandung region needs more effective and efficient waste management planning.
Development of planning scenario that promotes recycling and composting at source and transfer stations considered able to reduce the burden of waste transported to the landfill as well as the needs of the transportation facilities up to 45.66% with investment costs for transfer and transport is Rp 309.909.296.788,- or costing Rp 17.915,- per m3 of waste generation. This number is much smaller compared to scenario that doesn’t promote recycling and composting activities at source. |
