Description
Summary:Urban areas are believed to be center of consumption and cultural activities (Ed Glaeser, 2000). Empirichally, consumer culture has the role to drive the city growth. This urbanity phenomenon is also suggested by provision of the urban amenities, those related with the consumption activities. This study will argue the possible connection between urban amenities with the urbanity degree in an urban area. Study site used in this research is the Greater Bandung Metropolitan Area. The degree of urbanity will be quantified with the value of urban gradient which later will describe more about the urbanity in the specific area. Population density, network density and housing area will used as indicators to determine the urban gradient value. As for the urban amenities will include market, minimarket, supermarket, mall, restaurants, nightlife, museum and galleries as the amenities related to consumption and cultural activities. All variables are quantified in the fourth level unit (urban communities/villages) to get a more detailed results. The characteristics of the urban gradient will be explained using the descriptive analysis method, and spatial analysis to map the pattern of the urban amenities. The result shows a concentration of high urban gradient value in the city center which consist of Bandung City and Cimahi City in the metropolitan area. Pearson correlation and Regression are also used to identify the possible conenction between those variables
