Acupuncture GI is one of the acupuncture techniques developed based on classical Chinese acupuncture techniques and Javanese massage. The purpose of this study was to find out the benefits of acupuncture GI therapy on blood pressure, blood glucose levels, cholesterol levels, abdominal circumference and body weight in patients with metabolic syndrome. This research is a concurrent observational study qualitatively and quantitatively. Qualitative research was conducted with directional interviews for filling out questionnaires with open questions. Quantitative research was carried out by measuring blood glucose levels, blood pressure, total cholesterol, weight, height, abdominal circumference and body mass index (BMI). The study was conducted at UPT Layanan Kesehatan Bumi Medika Ganesha ITB and Klinik Akupunktur Sukamenak. Data collection was carried out from July to August 2018. Sampling was used by purposive sampling method by setting inclusion and exclusion criteria adjusted for the research conducted and obtained 53 respondents accordingly. The results showed that once and recurrent acupuncture GI therapy significantly reduced blood glucose levels (p <0.05). Acupuncture GI therapy also affected total cholesterol, systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, abdominal circumference and BMI but was not statistically significant (p> 0.05). So it can be concluded that acupuncture GI therapy is effective as a complementary therapy in in metabolic syndrome. text |
