A certain space specialty will give its own impression which may not necessarily be felt elsewhere. An area with a strong sense of place will encourage people to stay longer in that space.
Problems that happened in built environment such as changes in physical setting and lifeless activities could weaken the sense of place. Kota Baru was originally a colonial area with main function as a residential area, began to change. Those changes can be seen with the replacement of old buildings to new buildings with different designs or land use change from residential to commercial.
The research problem raised in this study is that the sense of place of Kota Baru still unidentified, especially after the area changing. This research is an exploratory study conducted by examining the problems that exist in each component of the sense of place by looking at the phenomenon and literature review. The method used in the research is mixed-method. The strategy used in this study is a case study by applying Kota Baru Yogyakarta as a research area. This study involved respondents from the visitor groups and residents of the Kota Baru area.
The results of this study indicate that the sense of place in Kota Baru area is classified in moderate level, viewed from the opinions of visitors both day and night, while respondents opinion feel that the sense of place in Kota Baru area is classified in strong level during the day and moderate level at night. From all of the sense of place criteria, imagebility is a criterion that is felt to be the most powerful compared to other criteria.<p align="justify"> |
