Summary: | The strong connection between human activities, changes in environmental services, and human welfare is one of the reason analysis on changes in environmental services is important. Lembang District as a part of the North Bandung Region has a function as a water catchment area which serves as the provider for ground water supply and the control of soil erosion for local areas and it’s (bawahannya). However, the development of non-agricultural economy and the increase in the number of residents in Lembang District resulted in changes in land cover to cover with lower water absorption. Based on the concept of environmental services which states that changes in human activities will have an impact on environmental service’s processes provided by the ecosystems, this study seeks to estimate the impact of land cover changes on water absorption functions in Lembang District, indicated by changes in the amount of land runoff and land lost during the period of 2010 to 2018. The estimation is calculated using the "WETSPA Extension Tool" and "Revised Universal Soil Loss Equation (RUSLE)" model using climate and regional geophysical characteristics of the area obtained from government agencies, open data from non-ministry government institutions and satellite image services. Meanwhile, the valuation of changes in environmental services is carried out using Replacement Cost Method. The results of this study showed an increase in landed area by 18.66% and a decrease in agricultural land area by 5.8% and forest by 12.01% in Lembang District during the period 2010 to 2018. This has implications for the calculation of estimated changes in water absorption function which shows an increase in the amount of water surface runoff by 6.14% and an increase in the amount of land lost by 135.95% during the period of 2010 to 2018. The output of this study is useful as an input for evaluating ongoing land use and as an input in deciding future land use. |
