Summary: | In 2015, member countries of the UN adopted the Agenda 2030 which was anchored by a set of seventeen Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The Indonesian government has shown strong commitment in achieving this agenda through the establishment of various legal frameworks for the implementation of the SDGs. In the era of global urbanization, however, the success of SDGs will depend heavily on its achievements in urban areas (United Nations, 2016). The importance of the urban areas is manifested in the SDGs through a specific goal, which is SDG 11 to “Make cities and settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable.” Thus, the absence of regulations and policies related to urban areas in Indonesia is not an excuse for not attempting the achievement of sustainable cities and communities, especially in functional urban areas that have yet to be controlled. The presence of SDGs in Indonesia can be seen as an opportunity o achieve urban sustainability for the likes of functional urban areas such as the Jatinangor Urban Area, that have yet to be regulated and possesses its own governmental institution. Despite having a strong legal-formal basis, the position of SDGs in urban areas in Indonesia has not been clearly articulated. This research aims to understand the position of the Sustainable Development Goals, specifically SDG 11 as an effort to achieve sustainable urban development, with Jatinangor as a case study. This study will use qualitative descriptive analysis methods and content on interview results, regulations, policies, and literature as material for analysis. This study has found that of the SDGs, specifically SDG 11, is not well positioned to achieve sustainable cities and communities in the Jatinangor Urban Area. |
