Tourism in Yogyakarta experienced growth from 2013 to 2017. This growth can be seen from the number of tourists visiting Yogyakarta. In line with Yogyakarta, Surakarta City experienced tourism growth as well. This can be seen from the increasing number of tourists visiting Surakarta City. Some tourist objects continue to be developed in Yogyakarta and in Surakarta City. On the other hand, the Prambanan Ekpress train experienced overload problems. This happens especially in certain hours and days. However, there is a series of Prambanan Ekspress trains that have low utility. Namely the series between morning and evening. Therefore, an idea emerged to operate the Prambanan Ekspress train, which has a low utility, to be a tourist-specific train, majoring in Surakarta City to Yogyakarta to support the tourism sector in both places. To provide train specifically for tourists, a study is needed to find out how tourists consider the choice of private car and train modes, and what factors influence it. There are several factors that influence modal movement including travel costs, travel time, safety of passengers and goods, ease of obtaining modes, convenience of modes, reliability of modes, and ease of achieving goals. In addition there are several tourist profiles including age, gender, income, education, travel motivation, number of places to visit, frequency of trips, travel time. Based on the results of the analysis there are 2 factors that influence the choice of modes, namely the modal comfort factor and the ease of achieving the goal. To improve train services can be done by increasing modal comfort and increasing the ease of reaching the destination text
