THE EFFECT OF LARGE-SCALE INFRASTRUCTURE ON LAND USE CHANGE IN GREATER CIREBON METROPOLITAN

Located in the very strategic province of West Java and currently the center of the manufacturing industry in Indonesia, the area declared to be Greater Cirebon Metropolitan has the potential to develop into a new growth center. The construction of large-scale infrastructure such as the Cipali Toll Road that connects Cirebon with the Jabodetabek and West Java International Airport at Kertajati Majalengka is expected to encourage economic growth for the surrounding area. On the other hand, large-scale infrastructure development will cause major changes in land use around the infrastructure. These impacts are often not anticipated in spatial planning. This study aims to identify the effect of large scale infrastructure development on land use change i n the Greater Cirebon Metropolitan area by using cellular automata. This study shows that large-scale infrastructure development has a major influence on changes in structure and spatial patterns that lead to the formation of mega urban areas that connect the Greater Jakarta and Greater Cirebon Metropolitan Area. However, the direction of the spatial pattern in the Spatial Plans of West Java Province 2009-2029 is indicated that it has not considered any changes in land use patterns around the Cipali Toll gate and West Java International Airport in Kertajati Majalengka
