REDESIGN OF GEOTOURISM TRAILS GAWIR PLATO JAMPANG IN GEOPARK CILETUH AREA KABUPATEN SUKABUMI

Geopark is an area that has a diversity of geological, biological and cultural heritage in which during the development of its concept required three elements, those are conservation, education, and sustainable development. Geotourism as one of sustainable tourism implementations has an aim to optimize the region’s potential, one of which is using geotrails concept. A right implementation of geotrails concept can extend tourists’ travel time. The problem that exist in Ciletuh Geopark is the development of geotrails that have not shown readiness in supporting tourism activities. Therefore, the aim of this study is redesign on of geotrails which planned in Ciletuh-Palabuhanratu Geopark Masterplan 2017, with consideration of literature review, government policy documents, observation and interviews. This research uses descriptive qualitative method by purposive sampling technique. The interviewees of this research were the West Java Province of Tourism and Culture Department, Sukabumi District Tourism Department and PAPSI (Paguyuban Alam Pakidulan Sukabumi) as a conservation and tourism community. The research method used is descriptive analysis to identify the readiness of geotrails and tourist’ preferences in mobility deciding, while to analyze the distance range of tourist attraction uses buffering by ArcGIS. The result of this study indicates that the readiness of the geotrails has not yet been implemented, but the conditions have been well prepared. This can be seen from promotion and information media platform, school visits, stakeholder cooperation and the completeness of geotrails elements, but there has been no implementation of reducing motorized vehicles in geopark area. Tourist’ preferences for mobility deciding is based on topographic class, distance of tourist attractions and time travel, so that private vehicles are still be the main choice of traveling. Meanwhile, based on range density among tourist attractions, Gawir Plato Jampang geotrails is divided into 2 parts, so that redesign on geotrails is needed to optimize the regional development plan.
