Summary: | The recent rise of religious power in Indonesia has shown that there is a hidden power that controls society. This control arises in everyday life to the political world that is openly riding on religion in its efforts to merge with society. This phenomenon has indeed been going on for a long time in Europe around 400 AD until 1400 AD, where religion became an institution that had authoritarian power to hold the power of government. A similar phenomenon began to emerge in Indonesia and the author is on the counter side of the situation, disagreement where religion is a mixed institution with government and power over society.
Responding to her disagreement with the current situation in Indonesia, the author uses installation art media that describe the situation of the worship room, more specifically mushalla. With installation art, the author wants to express the intervention of religious institutions in situations that are privacy, namely worship. Space arranged like a mushalla will be filled with objects that are common in the mushalla in general, such as carpets, qibla and religious clothing such as mukena. At a glance, this installation will look like an ordinary mushalla, but the objects on the installation will be arranged from the logos of Indonesian Islamic groups. This aims to show the existence of intervention of religious institutions in the realm of worship. The logos that make up the carpet use an emblem embroidered medium that is arranged and so that it resembles a carpet. Other objects are Islamic group logos arranged digitally and resemble geometric art styles so that from afar they will look like ordinary Islamic ornaments. But the concealment of these logos becomes a representation of the religious institution's control of activities that are privacy and degrade the sanctity of worship. |
