Description
Summary:Environmental management is an important component in sustainable activity for industrial sector. One of the problems in oil and gas industry is produced water. Total Indonesia E&P Balikpapan produces a produced water of 22.000- 25.000 barrel per day. Biological treatment is one of alternative method to reduce COD, phenol, and ammonia compound in produced water. This research was done in batch reactor to determine the kinetic process coefficient ?max and Ks, the removal rate of COD, phenol, and ammonia compound using Epyzim commercial bacteria. The experiments were done in 5 (five) days, and been sampled every 6-12 hours. The results showed that the value of ?max, Ks, and Kd were 0,114/hours, 0,064 mg/l, and 0,018/hours, respectively. COD removal efficiency of produced water without adding nutrients was 26,2-38%. And for produced water with adding nutrients to reach CNP ratio of 100:10:1 was 30,9-39%. Ammonia removal efficiency of produced water without adding nutrient has negative (-) value because there is an increasing of ammonia concentraion in effluent reactor, while ammonia removal efficiency of produced water with adding nutrients to reach CNP ratio of 100:10:1 was 76,5-91,6%. Phenol removal efficiency of produced water without adding and with adding nutrient to reach CNP ratio of 100:10:1 were 99,8%. Reactor effluent character in this experiment did not fulfill threshold limit accordance to the regulation of Environmental Ministry Regulation No. 19 of 2010. Epyzim commercial bacteria is a good phenol degrader, but not effective for total organic compound removal represented by COD.
