surface of a particular media. Dies embossing are generally used in leather industries
to give an embossed effect on the leather product. In the designing process of the dies
embossing, it is necessary to use an ArtCAM JewelSmith 9.0, software to make
things easier. The relief on the die is the Ganesha ITB relief with the contoured words
Faculty of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering engraved on it .
The production process of dies embossing uses a 4 axis CNC milling machine.
This machining process uses 2 machining methods which are raster and offset. The
parameters that are used in this machining process are different for each relief. The
stepover used in the Ganesha relief is 0.02–0.05 mm, with a feedrate of 3–5 mm/s.
The stepover used for the circle relief is 0.05 mm with a feedrate of 0.5 mm/s. For the
text relief, the stepover used is 0.01–0.015 mm with a feedrate of 1.5–3 mm/s. The
stepdown for the overall relief is 0.1 mm with a spindle rotation of 20000 rpm.
In the application process on leather, it should use genuine leather whose
thickness is 1–1.2 mm. In its application on leather, there is an embossing parameter
which produce good-quality emboss under pressure used is 140–150 bar, a
temperature of 150oC, and with a pressing time of 10–11 seconds. |
