ANALYSIS OF DETERMINING OPTIMUM CUTTING PARAMETER FOR CARBON FIBER COMPOSITE PLATES

The progress of carbon fiber reinforced polymers (CFRP) in the aerospace and aircraft industries is also due to their excellent properties, such as high strength to weight and stiffness to weight ratios, coefficient of low thermal expansion, magnetic resistance and corrosion. Even though CFRP and G...

Even though CFRP and GFRP can be made according to the desired shape, final processing such as the machining process is also needed to make several shapes such as holes. Holes are needed for the assembly process between one component and the other components. One of the problems in the process of composite material machining is the occurrence of damage to composite materials due to machining, such as: Delamination, Fiber pullout and Uncut Fiber. This study aims to find the optimum machining parameters on carbon fiber composite plates, such as spindle rotation, feeding speed and feed rate and the right cutting tool. In its implementation the spindle rotation and feeding speed are made constant while the rate of feeding is made variation. The cutting tool used consists of two different types of cutting tools. The feed rate turns out to greatly affect the results of the machining process, the low feed rate will result in better hole and box geometry and minimum delamination compared to the high wear rate. text
