Summary: | Like many developing countries in Asia, streetscape condition in Indonesia is not
developed properly. Users are not comfortable to walk in the street because the
quality of streetscape is very poor. Urban drainage is not effective to respond the
current issues about stormwater run-off in urban areas. The existing system of
urban drainage in Indonesia tries to move stormwater quickly to the river through
hard engineering. Therefore, it will damage the river ecosystem and local
flooding will often occur. Stormwater is consisted of many pollutants from the
road and any other non-permeable built area. The river’s ecosystem is being
damaged too because of it. Green strip in the streetscape is also not working
properly to minimize the problem. Recently, people found that soft engineering is
more desirable to increase ecological value in the streetscape. Soft engineering
system, that also called Green Infrastructure, becomes popular among the city’s
planners and designers. Although the system is quite popular among developed
countries but it will be more challenging to design green infrastructure in
developing country such as Indonesia. Beside the ecological problem, many cities
threatened lose its characteristic because the development of the streetscape is not
considering the cultural and historical value. This project has purpose to design
streetscape that can increase ecological value and strengthen the characteristic of
the city. Study case in this project is streetscape in Sudirman Street, Bogor City.
Bogor has high annual rain precipitation among cities in tropical country and
hence popularly called the Rain City. Sudirman Street also has many historical
values that need to be preserved. Design in this project is created based on
comprehensive analysis about site hydrology and infrastructure suitability to be
applied. There are ten areas that will be explained very detail so the system will be
well understood. The result of design that use eco-friendly material is predicted
could decrease run-off coefficient up to 12.5%. Replacing the ordinary green line
into green infrastructure, bio-swale, is predicted could decrease run-off until
100%. Management strategy is also created so the design could be implemented in
more sustainable way. |
