One of the renewable energy that can be used is biofuel from nyamplung seeds. Nyamplung plants (Calophyllum inophyllum L) are really potential to be used as biofuel due to its seeds higher oil content compared to other seeds such as jarak pagar and palm tree. It also has large land productivity and has large growth area in Indonesia, especially land near to beaches. One of the extracting biofuel method from nyamplung seeds is by mechanical extraction using flexible single screw extruder machine. The machine has advantages of being easier and simpler to be operated, and also having cheaper investment cost. In this research, nyamplung seeds extraction will be carried out using a flexible single screw extruder machine with a mixture of rice straw, and the pulp produced will further be chemically extracted using a Soxhlet machine to maximize the yield of nyamplung oil that is still contained in pulp. The addition of rice straw to the nyamplung seeds is purposed to increase the yield obtained from the mechanical extraction. The result of extracting nyamplung seeds with rice straw addition using flexible single screw extruder shows an increasing oil yield up to 117 g (46,8%) with the composition of 250 g nyamplung seeds and 8 g rice straw. The physicochemical analysis result also shows better quality of nyamplung seeds mixture with rice straw indicated by the reduction in acid number to 0,56 g KOH/g, iodine number to 79,83 g I2/100 g, and kinematic viscosity 4,424 mm2/s which are still qualified as biodiesel standard. text
