Modification of Carbon Paste Electrode with Molecularly Imprinted Poly(glycine) for Voltammetric Determination of Uric Acid
Uric acid is the end product of purine metabolism in human. Abnormal levels of uric acid can cause various diseases such as hyperuricemia, gout and Lesch-Nysan syndrome. Hence, analytical method for uric acid determination is needed. In this study, carbon paste electrode had been modified with molec...

Abnormal levels of uric acid can cause various diseases such as hyperuricemia, gout and Lesch-Nysan syndrome. Hence, analytical method for uric acid determination is needed. In this study, carbon paste electrode had been modified with moleculary imprinted poly(glycine) to be used in voltammetric determination of uric acid. The MIP modified electrodes were made through electropolymerisation of glycine in solution mixture containing 2 mM uric acid, 2 mM glycine in 0,1 M phosphate buffer solution at pH 7 in the potential range of -0.5 V to 1.8 V at a scan rate of 100 mV/s for ten cycles using cyclic voltammetry technique. Modified carbon paste electrode showed good precision with % RSD of 2.8% obtained from 36 measurements. Reproducibility 5 electrodes measurements resulted in % RSD of 2.7%. The calibration curves showed good linearity in the concentration range of 0.5 ?M - 100 ?M with detection limit of 0.12 µM. The modified carbon paste electrodes was applied to determine uric acid concentration in blood plasma and urine samples using differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) technique. The percent recovery obtained from blood plasma and urine samples were 99.80% -102.90% and 95.1 % - 105.4%, respectively. text |
