ISOLATION OF SECONDARY METABOLITES FROM THE HEART WOOD OF ARTOCARPUS SCORTECHINII KING (MORACEAE)
The plant of Artocarpus genus is known to have high content of flavonoid compounds. One of species from this genus is Artocarpus scortechinii King. Based on the literature review, the chemical contents of the heart wood of A. scortechinii King have never been reported. Hence, the objective of this...

INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/38171 The plant of Artocarpus genus is known to have high content of flavonoid compounds. One of species from this genus is Artocarpus scortechinii King. Based on the literature review, the chemical contents of the heart wood of A. scortechinii King have never been reported. Hence, the objective of this research is to reveal the variety of secondary metabolite compounds from the heart wood of A. scortechinii King and to examine the biological activity of isolated compounds (the cytotoxicity toward cell murine leukemia P-388). To reach this purposes, the series of laboratory work have been conducted, i. e. ; extraction, fractionation, and purification by using various of chromatography techniques. The structures of isolated compounds were determined based on spectroscopy data including UV, IR, 1H and 13C-NMR. Seven pure compounds have been successfully isolated from the methanol extract of the heart wood. Five of them were determined as cudraflavon C, artelastin, artelastisin, 5-methoxysalisylic acid, and ß-sitosterol. It has been reported that artelastin and artelastisin were obtained from A. elasticus while cudraflavon C was obtained from A. champeden. The finding of 5-methoxysalisylic acid was for the first time from Artocarpus genus. The cytotoxicity toward cell murine leukemia P-388 showed that cudraflavon C is extremely active with IC50 1.75 µg/mL and artelastisin is active with IC50 3.0 µg/mL. In addition, artelastin is inactive with IC50 5.75 µg/mL. text |
