mechanical quantity can be measured electronically through this cell. Unfortunately, the
price of this product is quite expensive though the way of its works and the production of
this cell are not too complicated. A couple time ago Lab Dinamika PAU-ITB has
designed, built and tested a 4 kgf capacity load cell that used aluminum alloy as the
forming material. Since the applied loads were exceeding its capacity, the load cell was
broken. Recently, Lab Dinamika need a load cell that can hold up to 100 kgf load for
internal research need. Thus, the new 100 kgf capacity load cell with exceeding load
protector need to be designed.
Basically the principal of how the 100 kgf capacity load cell works is similar to
the 4 kgf ones. Through its construction, axial force is directed in certain way on strain
element to produce flexural strain. There are two important things that attention need to
be taken. First, there must be no stress that exceeding the yield stress of the material of
load cell. Thus, the new load cell dimension is larger than the old one. Its material is also
replaced by a kind of alloy steel . Second, the strain where the strain gage is attached is
need to be large enough so that even the small force can be detected. This research use
MSC Nastran software to get the value of stress and strain on elements of load cell when
load is applied.
Load cell is tested by hanging the load so that load cell is under tensile axial
condition. This test is carried out to get the characteristic of the load cell. As the result,
load cell is capable to be used up to 100 kgf with 1.18 % maximum nonlinearity on half
bridge test and 0,28 % hysteresis on quarter bridge test. |
