There are two kinds of bearing that usually used on rotating machineries, there are roller bearing and journal bearing. Journal bearing can be classified into two types, which are hydrodynamic journal bearing and hydrostatic journal bearing. Both of them have different dynamic characteristic. Hydrostatic journal bearing, commonly known as external pressurize journal bearing, has a unique characteristic. That is, the pressurized lubricating fluid is injected in the bearing, so the shaft that it supported will be lifted to the center of the journal bearing. Thus metal to metal contact will not occur. This research consists of designing, manufacturing, and testing of hydrostatic journal bearing apparatus, which has eight recess hydrostatic journal bearing. With this apparatus, the vibration caused by the pressurized lubricating fluid is expected to be occurred. There are several vibration measurements that had been done in this research, which are FRF (Frequency Response Function), spectral map, orbit, and order track measurement. The measurement results show that the shaft-rotor system with pressurized lubricating fluid had higher damping ratio than the shaft-rotor system without pressurized lubricating fluid. text
