Research on Calophyllum seed tends to focus on oil extraction for biodiesel application. During the proces, resin is produced as waste. Meanwhile, resin has potential for varnish, adhesive, and drugs. Resin has the potential of 386.4 kg resin/ha/year. The objective of this research was to determine the effect of operation variable on resin yield. This research consist of four main processes: preparation, extraction, refinement, and characterization. Extraction was carried out using Soxhlet extractor with binary solvent. The solvents are: methanol – n-hexane, ethanol – n-hexane, with the ratio variation of each solvent 1.25:1; 2:1; 3:1 and 6:0 respectively. Extract are analyzed by determining resin yield, acid value, and resin type. Resin yield was found in the range of 15.8 – 28.2% with the best resin yield obtained on 1.25:1 ethanol to n-hexane ratio. Acid resin numbers were found in the range 138 - 204 mg KOH/g. Acid resin numbers that meet the standard specifications (above 160 mg KOH/g) are obtained on 2:1, 3:1, and 6:0 methanol / ethanol to n-hexane ratio. The type of resin extracted is rosin resin. The factorial design of 22 showed that the solvent type had the most significant effect on resin yield and the solvent ratio did not have a significant effect but resulted in a tendency for resin yeild to increase as the number of nonpolar solvents increased. text
