Based on statistical data form Flight Safety Foundation[10], approach-landing phases which have excessive or less energy is the causes of 66% of 76 accidents occurred during this phases. These accidents were caused by mismanagement energy of the aircraft so that 66% of accidents occurred, 36% due to too low speed and altitude and 30% due to excessive speed and altitude. The flight crews shall ensure that the aircraft has been on the landing configuration at the stabilization gate 1000 ft AAL. This undergraduate thesis objective is to evaluate flight parameters from flight operation quality assurance (FOQA) unit of an airline operates in Indonesia. Evaluation was conducted to find out the causes of the flights indicated an unstabilized approach. Unstabilized approach is an approach that does not meet the stabilized approach parameters that have been defined by flight operators and regulators. These flight parameters were compared to the restrictions published by the manufacturer, regulator, and operator. These parameters are altitude, rate of descent, pitch angle, aircraft heading, wind direction and speed, aircraft speed, flap defection, landing gear position, autopilot disengangement, vertical G and engine thrust. Two flights indicated unstabilized approach from the airline database was evaluated with four other flights being used as a comparison trend.The evaluation showed that flights which were indicated unstabilized approach were caused by excessive speed when entering the stabilization gate. This causes high energy approach in condition. From these results, it can be concluded that unstabilized approach conditions that occurred in these flights were caused by mismanagement energy when performing approach and landing procedures. text |
